In a heartwarming launch on November 2, 2023, Waitrose introduces its inaugural Christmas campaign in partnership with Saatchi & Saatchi, centered around the theme "Time for Good Things." The campaign captures the essence of the holiday season, highlighting Waitrose's commitment to delivering food that evokes a sense of joy and satisfaction.
The campaign's 90-second advert, directed by renowned filmmaker Autumn de Wilde, paints a relatable picture of Christmas moments. It features guests arriving early, bathroom mishaps, a power outage, and a surprise appearance by Graham Norton, bringing the Golden Bûche de Noël No. 1 to the party. These minor inconveniences are quickly forgotten as Waitrose's delectable offerings take center stage, including No.1 mince pies with cranberry and orange, a glistening salmon mousse, Florentine-inspired No.1 panettone, and a Christmas Winter Village chocolate box. The core message: "When food is good, everything is good."
Nathan Ansell, Waitrose Customer Director, underscores the role of food in creating special Christmas moments, acknowledging that while the holiday season may have its hiccups, the joy of enjoying delicious food with loved ones takes precedence. Christmas is a time for good things, and when the food is exceptional, everything falls into place.
Graham Norton, who makes a cameo in the campaign, shares his delight in being part of this festive celebration with Waitrose, emphasizing the pleasure of indulging in the brand's festive range.
Frankie Goodwin, chief creative officer of Saatchi & Saatchi, highlights the restorative power of good food during Christmas, expressing that a satisfying meal can make everything else seem just fine. The campaign conveys the message that Waitrose is the reliable source of "the good stuff."
Beyond television advertising and BVOD, Waitrose's Christmas campaign includes various out-of-home executions, such as DOOH and bespoke special builds, alongside print, radio, and digital channels. MG OMD is responsible for planning and purchasing across all platforms.
The campaign's creative approach features a range of good-for-you promises for the festive season, including whimsical statements like 'A good excuse to eat cake for breakfast' and 'Good luck saving leftovers.'
Starting from November 6, a series of product ads will spotlight key offerings from Waitrose's 2023 festive range. Some notable products include the Türkiye crown with jeweled filling, No.1 The Golden Bûche de Noël, No.1 Mince Pies with Cranberries and Oranges, and an array of party foods, from Christmas Smoked Salmon Eclairs to King Prawn Gyoza.
Partners within the John Lewis partnership will enjoy an exclusive early viewing of the ad on November 1 at 4 pm, before it becomes available on waitrose.com and various social channels on November 2. The advert will make its television debut on November 2 at 8:15 pm during Emmerdale on ITV1.
