In a recent visit to Craigie's Farm in Queensferry, a Scots mum found herself dismayed after being billed £15 for two pumpkins, following a £38 expenditure for a special Halloween event for her children. The anonymous Edinburgh native, a regular patron of the farm, shared her feelings of disappointment regarding this additional charge.
The family's total expenditure, which included the Spooky Tunnels event, amounted to £53. The mother was taken aback by the unexpected £15 cost for the pumpkins. She asserted that the price she paid for the medium-sized pumpkins differed from the prices she had seen advertised, which ranged between £3 and £4.
Craigie's Farm defended its pricing, emphasizing that the cost of their farm-grown pumpkins reflected the effort and expenses involved in nurturing them. They also highlighted the uniqueness of the experience of picking pumpkins on their farm, contrasting it with simply purchasing them from a supermarket.
Expressing her disappointment, the mother stated, "I feel really disappointed after what was already an expensive day out, to then have to fork out on two pumpkins is just so upsetting, especially since it wasn't the price I was expecting. Of course, if I had thought about it at the checkout I would have questioned it."
Having been a loyal customer for years, she raised concerns that Craigie's Farm might now prioritize profit over customer experience, lamenting that the prices just didn't add up to her.
A spokesperson from Craigie's Farm responded, highlighting the success of their Halloween experience and explaining that their pumpkin prices were reflective of the true cost and effort involved in growing them. They also stressed the uniqueness of their pick-your-own pumpkin experience, arguing that comparing it to supermarket pumpkins was unfair.
