When McDonald's decided to bring back its iconic Halloween Pails in 2022 after a lengthy hiatus, it sent waves of excitement among both adults and children who had fond memories of the spooky Happy Meal buckets. The question of whether these nostalgic pails were intended for themselves or for the younger generation to enjoy sparked many debates. What truly mattered was that McGoblin, McPunk'n, and McBoo had made a return to house our Happy Meals. Responding to the enthusiastic demand, McDonald's has officially announced the return of these Halloween Pails once again for the year 2023.
This year's Halloween Bucket Happy Meals are set to feature four whimsical characters: an orange skeleton, a white mummy, a green monster, and the iconic purple vampire, which was originally part of the Boo Buckets' inaugural lineup. However, McDonald's press release revealed a somewhat unusual detail – these new Boo Buckets won't hit the scene until October 17th, a mere two weeks before Halloween. This timing has left many fans pondering how McDonald's intends to roll out this limited-time offer and whether there will be enough time to collect all four.
In response to the uncertainty, an Instagram post by Snackolator captures the sentiment of fans: "[If only] they had the dates of each release of each bucket and/or the locations because last year, they said they ran out or they sold out while the staff was holding them and/or selling them higher." Another fan chimes in, asking, "Anyone know how McDonald's rolls these things out? Like a different one every week or what?"
A notable point of contention among fans is the lack of lids on these Boo Buckets. McDonald's press release mentions that this year's Boo Buckets will be available at participating locations until supplies run out. Each pail will come with a Happy Meal, offering options like a hamburger, 4-piece McNugget, or 6-piece McNugget, along with apple slices, fries, and a kid's drink. The pricing may vary depending on the location, but typically, Happy Meals are priced between $5 and $7.50.
Apart from the brief availability window, the absence of lids is another issue that has irked customers, a concern echoed from last year's release. A disgruntled customer voices their disappointment on Snackolator's Instagram post, stating, "I didn't get last year's because it didn't have a lid. Looks like I'm doing the same this year." Another adds, "Why no lids... again??"
In an intriguing twist, Burger King has taken this opportunity to remind fast food enthusiasts of an alternative to McDonald's Boo Buckets. Burger King has unveiled its own Halloween pail, aptly named the "Trick-or-Heat" bucket, set to be released on the fitting date of Friday, October 13th. This black, glow-in-the-dark bucket coincides with Burger King's Ghost Pepper Whopper and Ghost Pepper Chicken Fries, available in stores starting on October 12th. Unlike the Boo Buckets, the "Trick-or-Heat" basket, which also appears to lack a lid, can be added to any meal for just $1.
