Leeds Bradford Airport Commences £100 Million Terminal Upgrade for 2026
Leeds Bradford Airport has unveiled ambitious plans for a £100 million overhaul of its terminal facilities, scheduled for completion by 2026. This extensive regeneration project encompasses a substantial revamp of the existing terminal building and the construction of a three-story, 9,500 square meter extension.
This initiative harks back to the original 2018 proposal, which was temporarily superseded in early 2020 by plans for an entirely new terminal structure. However, the latter plan was abandoned in 2022 due to extensive delays and interventions by the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities.
The forthcoming upgrade program is set to kick off this autumn, promising passengers a host of benefits, including additional aircraft stands, expanded seating areas, streamlined security processes, new retail and dining options, a larger baggage reclaim section, and an improved immigration hall. Furthermore, the enhancements will ensure improved accessibility for passengers with restricted mobility.
Leeds Bradford Airport's investment in this project also underscores its commitment to environmental sustainability. The installation of new, energy-efficient heating and lighting systems, alongside advanced machinery such as modern baggage belts, will contribute to decarbonizing the airport's operations.
This news follows recent renovations at Leeds Bradford, which introduced upgrades to its two lounges, including the reimagined 1432 Runway Club and the expanded Yorkshire Lounge.
Vincent Hodder, Chief Executive of Leeds Bradford Airport, expressed his enthusiasm for the development, stating, "This announcement marks the beginning of a new era for Leeds Bradford Airport. This investment will provide the necessary infrastructure to deliver an outstanding customer experience, support our airline partners' growth, enhance connectivity for business, investment, and trade, and finally offer the airport that Leeds, Bradford, and Yorkshire have long awaited. LBA is a pivotal asset for our region and community, and our investment will align with broader regional developments, creating new jobs, opportunities, and shared benefits."
The Leeds Bradford Airport's £100 million terminal upgrade signifies a significant step toward modernization, passenger satisfaction, and a more sustainable future for this crucial Yorkshire travel hub.
